Gift Me A Clue holds quiet, personal things — names, dates, and the small remarks people make. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and how you stay in control of it.

Private by default
Everything you put into Gift Me A Clue — the people you add, their dates, your clues, your gift history and your plans — is private to your account. It is not published, not searchable and not shown to anyone else.
Sharing is never automatic. If we ever add ways to share a list or a clue with someone, it will only happen because you deliberately chose to.
What we collect
Account information: your email address and password (your password is stored by our authentication provider, never by us in readable form), and an optional username if you choose one.
The information you enter: the names, relationships, dates of birth, important dates, preferences, clues, gift history and notes you record about the people you give gifts to.
Technical information needed to run the service, such as error reports and basic usage of the site.
Why we collect it
To remember the things people mention so we can bring them back to you before an occasion.
To research gift suggestions that suit the person you are buying for, including where they live for delivery and local options.
To keep your account secure and to send essential service email such as sign-in, security and occasion reminders.
About the people you add
The people you add are your own private notes about them. They do not get an account, are not contacted by us, and their details are never used to build a profile of them for anyone else.
Please only record things you would be comfortable being responsible for keeping.
Who else processes your information
We use service providers to run the product: hosting and database, authentication, email delivery, and AI and web-research services used to read your clues and find gift options.
They process information on our instructions so the product can work. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pass it to third parties for their own marketing.
Your real name and email stay private
Your email address is never shown publicly. Your real name is never shown publicly unless you deliberately choose to share it.
If you pick a username, it is deliberately separate from your private details — it carries none of your account information, your people or your clues.
Managing your information
You can view and edit everything you have entered inside the app, and you can remove any person along with their saved information.
From your account page you can download a copy of your information, change your email preferences and delete your account.
Marketing email
Essential service email is separate from marketing email. Creating an account does not sign you up for marketing.
Marketing email is only sent if you opted in, and we keep a record of when you did and what you were shown. Every marketing email identifies Gift Me A Clue as the sender and includes a one-click unsubscribe. You can also switch it off at any time on your account page.
Deleting your account
Deleting your account removes your people, clues, dates, gift history, plans, profile and email preferences, and closes your sign-in.
We keep a minimal record that a deletion was requested, and some information may persist briefly in backups before it ages out.
Cookies and analytics
We use the storage your browser provides to keep you signed in and to hold anything you record before you create an account. This is necessary for the product to work.
If we add analytics or advertising technology later, we will describe it here first.
